Cairn Wraiths are a weird unit that fits some of the generic GW build, but due to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ straight combat stats stats they arent really used in the same manner.Īnti-infantry GW are also anti armor, but specialize vs infantry(Greatswords, Squires, Swordmasters, Executioners/SHades w/ GW and Grave Guard GW) and arent as good vs other forms of armor, hence making them cheaper(usually). In spite of their lack of anti-infantry bonus, higher stats across the board often mean they are often comparable/superior when faced vs infantry in comparison to the second category of GW's, the anti-infantry variant, but more expensive due to their greater flexibility. Vanilla GW are oriented at anti-armor but not specialized at anything, they tend to fare better vs armored infantry than large due to their lack of anti-large bonus(White lions, Wildwood rangers, Chaos great weapons, Dwarf greatweapons/hammerers, Censer bearers, Bestigors and Black orcs all fall under this classification). Second of all, GW should be divided into 2 categories really, but general rules over both categories compared to normal shielded units include higher base damage/damage per hit, AP, melee attack and charge bonus, but often lower melee defense, no shield(obviously) and slower attack speed. Because Skaven lifes dont mattter and they cant kill anything more then a Goblin anyways as long they are not 10 against 1.įirst of all, I note that dwarf rangers with GW, while good, do not have shields, and are meant for their missiles, the fact that they have AP melee is just a nice bonus. Thats why they are the only Army that allows toFire and throw Granades into close combat. Skaven are by far the weakest Close combat Army. and after the battle you say "But he had a Spear against Big Targets!!" :) Thats like you give Stephen Hawking a Spear and send him against Dwayne Johnson. When i read Stormvermin against Dragonogres i have to laugh. If you want to build a Skaven Melee Army you will lose against every serious Army. Skaven have Awesome Assasins, Warmachines and Tech Weapons like Flamethrower. Even the so called Elite Skaven are still only Skaven. Every single Skaven Infantry unit is crap. I had a Stormvermin with halberds struggle against a dragon ogre sheoggoth before. But occasionally they'll take alot of casualties in my experience, even while braced. If it's 2 handed weapons, like halberds, alot of them are generally effective against large targets. Originally posted by Beatrix Brehme:If it's specifically about 2 handed greatswords like Chosen or Greatswords then their uses are somewhat specific, personally I send them against any armored infantry. So yeah iv generally avoided using them for a while and mostly relied on ranged/calv/regular infantry to to the killing but ive been thinking finally that it might be a good idea to get better with them. So, give us a little additional info: How are you using your units and what units specificly are we talking about? None in particular, im just wondering because in generel iv'e not had much luck with them, and i was thinking of playing empire or dwarves again in ME. Same goes for other specialised units, wich greatweapon-units usually are. This is why you usually want units like Halberdiers or Spearmen soak up the enemy charge and pin the enemy down, while you move your Greatswords in from the flanks to chop them up afterwards. They won't hold the line vs enemy elites or monsters however and will die if frontally charged. Take the Imperial Greatswords for example: They'll do great vs enemy infantry of any kind if positioned correctly. Personally I find them great as flankers on foot.
